Avanti's main activities are custom/contract designs, i.e. we design electronic circuits to specifications requested by our customers. Over the last 28 years we have designed mainly (but not exclusively) for companies in the oil industry.

ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS FOR OIL FIELD APPLICATIONS ARE SPECIAL IN SEVERAL RESPECTS:

  • Equipment, which is to be used down-hole in an oil well, must operate at extremely high ambient temperatures - up to (and sometimes even beyond) 175°C / 350°F.

  • Surface equipment on the other hand is often operated within an environment where highly explosive gases may be present. In such cases, equipment must be designed and certified as Intrinsically Safe (IS).

  • Both of the above points are associated with low power designs. In a high temperature environment it is essential to minimise any additional heat generated within the components through power dissipation. In an explosive environment, power levels must be kept low enough to prevent them from igniting explosive gases. In addition, long-term battery operation is often a requirement too.

THIS IS WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU:

  • Hardware: We are experienced in many areas of electronic circuit design, analog as well as digital, including programmable logic, micro controllers and communications. We can provide schematics as well as PCB layouts.

  • Firmware: We are experienced in both Assembler and 'C' programming for real-time applications. We are familiar with many industry standard protocols including Modbus, Canbus, I2C etc..

  • Documentation: Our designs are accompanied by immaculate revision-controlled documentation in English or German - circuit description, parts lists, assembly/test instructions, user manuals etc..

HERE ARE SOME DESIGN EXAMPLES:

  • Battery powered down-hole Memory Board for measuring pressure and temperature. We have designed many different versions, for quartz and straingauge transducers and longterm operation of up to two years.

  • Surface Readout System (SRO). Connected to the down-hole electronics through a single, up to 30000ft long coax cable, which carries power and signals. We have designed a number of different versions including a noise immune system, which shares the cable with a downhole tractor.

  • Intrinsically Safe Depth Logger. Reads the pulses of a shaft encoder and displays/stores depth location and speed of down-hole tools together with line tension. Certified EEx ib IIC T4.

  • Production Logging Tool. Modular version of a multi-channel down-hole memory board, which allows to add additional sensors and actuators (trigger modules) as required.

  • Ultra High Temperature (235°C) Multidrop Quartz SRO tool using Silicon on Insulator (SOI) components for use in high temperature permanent installations

  • ESP pump monitor measuring intake and discharge pressures together with other diagnostic data related to machine health. Values are transmitted to the surface via the 3-phase power cable.

No, sorry! Confidentiality is very important to most of our customers and therefore to us. Nobody wants to give away technologies and experience built up over many years. Often even the title of a project is regarded as sensitive information. This is something we absolutely respect, and we have no objections to signing a confidentiality agreement prior to starting on a new contract.
