Straingauges are wideley used in the oil field for measuring downhole pressure, torque
and other strain or stress related signals. Excellent accuracy and resolution can be achieved with modern silicon on saphire strain gauges (SOS), provided the sensor's temperature is measured at the same time and used for compensation of temperature dependent variations in the bridge output. The straingauge temperature is tradionally measured using a separate PRT mounted close to the bridge resistors. However, SOS strain gauges exhibit a fairly large variation in the bridge impedance over temperature, which can be used directly for a temperature measurement. This has the advantage that the actual bridge temperature is measured, providing the best possible tracking of temperature signal and primary signal (e.g. pressure). The Avanti Strain Gauge Simulator was designed to substitute a SOS strain gauge when testing and characterising data acquisition systems. It employs an active feedback circuit to impress a current into the bridge resistors. Bridge output and bridge impedance are controlled independently by two ten-turn pots. Model-No: AVA-05 This is a mature product and is available on special request only. For price and lead time please contact Avanti. |
