Quartz pressure transducers are widely used in the oil industry for measuring downhole
pressure and temperature with very high accuracy. Traditionally these transducers have
frequency outputs and are sometimes referred to as 'analog' transducers, to distinguish
them from their recently introduced counterparts with I2C interface.
Avanti offers a range of Quartz Transducer Simulators, which facilitate testing and characterisation of
data acquisition systems (downhole boards) in the absence of a real transducer. Transducer Simulators
are sometimes also called Dummy Transducers.
The Avanti AVA-06 is a low cost analog Quartzdyne Simulator with frequency outputs.
It generates pressure, temperature and reference signals that are compatible with all currently available
5V and 3V Quartzdyne transducers. Due to its low cost, the AVA-06 is particularly suited for production
testing of downhole boards.
The simulator consists of a small standalone PCB measuring 60x65mm.
Pressure and temperature frequencies can be set independently by means of two
rotary switches. Constant values or ramps can be selected. Signal coupling (AC/DC or OFF) is configured
through jumper links.
The simulator draws its supply current from the target board, i.e. no external power is required.
Current consumption is similar to that of a real transducer.
